Mercedes X Class. Moose test
The reactions of the X Class have been safe on the Moose Test.
The maximum entrance speed that we achieved is 69 km/h.
Of the other pick up vehicles that we have tested, the Mitsubishi L200 and the Ford Ranger
were a bit more agile —with them we succeeded at 71 km/h— while the maximum entrance speed of the Toyota Hilux was 66 km/h.
The reactions of these vehicles have been similar: slow but progressive.
With the X Class, if the first swerve is done abruptly in order to get close to the left side of the second cone lane and take advantage of the hole space available,
the electronic stability control comes into action suddenly and the steering becomes very hard to operate,
which makes it impossible to return to the third cone lane on time without hitting cones.
Because of this, the best way to achive a high entrance speed is by getting as close as possible to the first interior cone of the second lane.
Following this technique we did a successful attempt entering at 69 km/h, and several more —entering in between 70 and 75 km/h— in which we only hit that cone.
On that range of entering speeds, the reactions always remained predictable and easy to control.
Slalom
On the slalom the X Class changes direction with the expected agility for a vehicle of its kind and size.
The body roll is not excessive and the electronic stability control comes into action soon to prevent abrupt movements.
