Waching daily Apr 2 2017

It was around 2011...

when I was surprised with the image of the cover of my first album

which has a photo of my face, shot by Inaê Coutinho

being used as an icon of a Campaign for non-violence against women.

Along with the image came the slogan: "Don't Be Silent"

There were banners spread across universities and...

this image was posted all over the Internet.

Messages arrived from friends and fans asking if I was participating in this campaign.

At first I was a little shocked...

to look at that image of an "X" on my mouth and...

it is such a strong slogan.

Including the fact that neither I nor Inaê Coutinho were consulted or...

or had given any authorization for the use of that photo.

That made us very uncomfortable...

so we started thinking about

how we could correct this incident

or say this provocation of destiny.

We made several unsuccessful attempts

to get in contact with the people who were involved with the campaign

In the end I thought the best decision was

to use my own work as a tool

and that was the decision I made.

Why not make a song?

Why not use my music to support the campaign

and be an effective part of it

my whole self

I didn't want to remain an image without an identity.

In 2012, I recorded the first version of the song "Don't Be Silent".

using the slogan of the campaign to compose it.

The song pays homage to women I admire and love.

We made an audio and video production

inviting the musician Bruno Bona to produce the track.

We collaborated with the musicians Marcelo Effori...

...Zé Nigro...

...the vocal group Canto Das Manas...

and other talented friends.

It was a start

it was a way to be part of this cause

In 2016, I became pregnant and felt the desire to make a new version of this song

and to include my daughter's name on the list of honorees.

...so I did this second version to include Laura...

This time, Marcelo Effori and Meno Del Picchia produced the track

and I invited the singers:

Kika

Helô Ribeiro

Tais Balieiro

and Mairah Rocha

to sing along with me.

There was another layer to this process that let me get closer to this cause:

was to plan a live show, which would include the performance of "Don't Be Silent".

I worked with the musicians

to create a list of songs honoring women.

We invited both groups of singers

from the first and second recordings of the song

to join us in the live performance.

It was incredible to feel the potential

of this project of poetry,

music and social consciousness

through the power of our combined female voices.

The experience of this live show and the inclusion of "Don't Be Silent",

with the participation of these wonderful singers and musicians

had a huge impact.

We were immersed in joy

and excitement

at the success of communicating

by bringing lightness and lyricism to this delicate subject.

We feel like we created something special

that could be duplicated through future live performances.

I was inspired to create a workshop in conjunction with the live performances.

The Workshop would prepare participants

to bring their personal experience to the live performance.

They would share the stage with us.

So " Don't Be Silent " will have its own voice

or its own life

with this proposal.
