We are Trio Choro Moderno (Modern Choro Trio)
We'd like to invite you to know our project
So, our project first started
when my brother Pedro,
after living for 9 years in New York City,
came back to live in Brasil again
with his family
and then we immediately started to play together the choro repertoire
because he played there in the US and I played here with the groups I had formed
as soon as he returned we could put our repertoire together, with all that desire to play again
and this duo we called "Duo Dois Irmãos" (Two Brothers Duo)
It was this duo that later became the present trio.
I think that the inclusion of the drums had a very beneficial influence in the sound of our trio
specially from a musician who had another background, more into Jazz
so we got this different sonority
I think that the main thing is this different flavor within the Choro repertoire
It was very interesting and enriching
to adapt the traditional choros for the drum set
you have a series of resources that are available to you
the pandeiro (brazilian tambourine) of course has the choro language
but the drum set brings a new series of timbres and variations
that you can create over the traditional rhythms
you interpret the choros, the melodies, you play in a melodic way
it generates interest, a diferent sonority
aybe it's one of Trio Choro Moderno's characteristics
we composed some new tunes
one in partnership with Pedro
others I composed alone, Pedro composed and also Diego
and we put together these compositions to make a CD
The first idea of this project was to record originals
and also to register the sonority of the Trio
we also had three special guests:
Sizão Machado
This Trio has something new to say
this set up
with cavaquinho or tenor guitar
7 string guitar and drums playing choro
Their proposal is cool
it has a language that it seems intimate to us, but it's not
The thing is that it's archetypical
it's brazilian, right?
my grandfather was a flutist, he played choro
it gets me very emotive

In relation to this instrumental formation, I find it very interesting because choro music
is a genre that worries about keeping the tradition
on the other hand, it's a genre that reinvents itself
anyway, I think to some extent that they bring these freshness in the instrumentation
to a genre that has this connection with the traditional

Pedro and Paulo have a history with choro
so, it's an structure that has its work based in Choro
but they are experimenting bringing guests that are not from this language
so they are giving a different flavor to it, right?
the sonority will be different, and this is very cool
