Waching daily Jan 29 2017

6 AM, we are making our bags to go to Paxong, famous for its coffee.

We are leaving to discover our 3rd center of Enfants du Mekong. Let's go for 30 km of steep way to begin the day !

Saigo and Chai, a story of coffée

Arriving in the godchildrens place under the rain ! So we meet Saigo 15 years old and Chai 16 yers old, 2 godchildrens sponsored by Enfants du Mekong.

These two friends are found of football : raining, windy, they will never miss the daily training.

They are sponsored for two months and they had to move out with local manager of Enfants du Mekong to be more closer to their secondary school and be able to go there everyday.

Every day, Chai et Saigo take part into to the daily tasks: cleaning, gardening and cooking. Look at this talent!

No more excuses, children, to not cook with your parents ! They invite us to have dinner and it's delicious!

After that, they are taking time to study. So we decide to give an english course to them.

A little bit shy at the beginning ,they are finally really happy to practice and we are doing it it with good vibes!

For the new year, some basics material have been donated for their village.

With Saigo and Chai, we take care with the preparation and the packing before the distribution to all the children of the village.

In the bag : 2 pencil sharpenners, one brush tooth, one tooth paste, one blue pen, one wooden pencil and 8 candies.

Following this, we go on the way to the village : 20 km on dirty way in the middle of the coffee field, difficult to get in the village !

Arriving, Saigo bring us across the village to his family.

Always with the smile, his father explained us that everybody in the village is a coffee farmer.

This year, the harvest was really bad: 500 kilos.

We are learning with surprise that he is selling his coffee for 3500 kip/ kilo, whether 40 cents, so 200 euros for all the year for him, his wife and his two children!

Chai's father, coffee farmer as well, must support his family of 7 children with his harvest of 1500 kilos!

40 cents for one kilo of coffee ! Comparatively in France, one capsule of 5 g cost, on average, 28 cents, 56 euros per kilo, whether 140 times more expensive.

This coffee will not finish in capsule but it gives you an idea of the benefice which is going to the productor.

After the visit of the family , to finish on an happy way, we are gathering all the childrens of the village for the surprise.

Chai et Saigo are distributing all the gift and we can already see their pleasure to help the village.

Which is blooming us , it's again and always the smiles and the shares.

Well-earned Rest Day | Ep 10 | Tour de Madagascar - Duration: 7:19.

I don't know what day it is here in Madagascar, but we are not racing as we have a rest day.

Yesterday after my victory in stage 5 I had to travel for eight hours to Morondava and

I think all the cyclists are happy with a day off.

It is not easy to stay fit here in Mada with the lack of vitamins, vegetables and dairy

products.

Many of us have diarrhea and visit the toilet pretty often.

So the trip to Morondava is pretty beautiful.

Although we do not see any special bird or other animal, the nature is so different to

where we were the last seven days.

More wide and open lands, it's more quiet, greener, not too many trees and the houses

look pretty special.

There are also quite a lot of small rivers in the region and the bridges are essential

to keep the villages connected to the main roads.

People say that the southern part is more touristic.

I can imagine, although we won't spot any maki or chameleon.

That does not automatically mean that the roads are better than in the northern part

of Madagascar.

Although there are not that many big camions around here, gaps and holes still occur way

too often.

These roads we're travelling on are the same roads we have to deal with in stage eight

and nine…

At half past twelve we arrive in Morondava.

Not at a hotel, but in a building the local church provided us.

Very kind of course, but we don't have water nor electricity.

I don't have the energy to bother about that now.

I just wanna sleep, although I haven't had a shower of 30 hours.

The next day nothing changed in the situation in the building so we decided to first do

one hour on the bike.

We actually see the famous baobab-trees!

After that we could fix a different hotel with – sometimes - electricity and water.

I tried to save some energy the rest of the day, finishing the day off with a little stroll

through the village.

Morondava is definitely not different to other villages in Madagascar.

There are still children begging for food, people asking for money and too many immature

girls trying to fix a rich man for an exciting night…

Tomorrow there is a criterium again.

Hopefully I feel a bit better than today, otherwise it's going to be a tough 90 kilometer

race.

Today the maximum temperature was 43 degrees.

Tomorrow it might be even hotter, they say…
