Hello…
To complete the serie of video that I'm beginning…
about the radius wood shaper work. You are a lot to ask me :
"but why you using the curved machining guide, while you could do it with a rub collar!"
Ouaip it's true ! We can make that with a rub-collar like this one.
This one is the rub collar of my spiral cutters of the head shaper.
Except that, when we want to make for example here…
You can see, i have a head cutter with many quarter round
Even if I have a rib collar here,
with an aluminum ring around,
this ring is adapted to the diameter of this body, but isn't adapted here…
to this last quarter round.
So the idea… Ideally, it would be to have rub collar for every molding we want to make…
This is what I propose to you today!
To show you how with a little piece of plywood,
and this bearing while keeping correct safety conditions.
We can adapt a rub collar to the diameter needed for any type of head cutter.
By putting temporarily the bearing in place and using a bit Forstner
with the suited diameter… I can easily find the center!
So I have my preparatory piece, and my objectif is to have a rub collar at the right diameter !
Which end here, because it this quarter round that I want to use
I have to center the head cutter on the bearing
To this end I use the Forstner bit , the same used previously to mark the center
Here, I am between the two, it's perfect
It's turning , it doesn't move… ok
I don't have to move, i'm going to bring my set square…
Just here… so here… i'm going to make a little mark and i'm going back to the wood turning engine
I made desapear the bottom of my set square in my workbench
And you can note two things:
Here … in the bottom
It's not square…and here… the extremity of my set square doesn't match with the angle.
I think that by straightening the plywood ring everything will be aright…
Voilà so… here, the precision is more than satisfactory,
Surely better than my original rub collar.
The extremity of my set square match with that!
We can now test it on the shaper wood.
Voilà a little video, I hope it will help you to demystify a little the radius wood shaper work
The approach by rub collar is the easiest in my opinion.
So go ahead, be creative
And as usual, think to give a comment, to like this video, and more importantly don't forget to subscribe
That way we will see us next week.
Tchao bye bye
