SBS Gayo Daejun Audience Complains About Blackouts During Pre-Recorded Performances

Audience members at the 2017 SBS Gayo Daejun have voiced complaints about having had to wait in the dark for nearly half the show.

The year-end music program took place on December 25 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul and was broadcast live on SBS. However, according to many of the audience members who attended the show, more than half of the performances were pre-recorded.

ATF. Although many live music shows air some pre-recorded performances in order to ensure smooth transitions between segments, the artists featured in the footage typically perform live for the audience while the pre-recorded footage airs on television.

At the 2017 SBS Gayo Daejun, however, the audience was reportedly forced to wait in the dark for long periods of time while the pre-recorded performances were airing.

In the few cases where artists did appear onstage to perform live while their pre-recorded footage was airing, they often only performed the first verse of their songs before retreating to prepare for the next stage.

Additionally, because the stage lights were turned off between live performances, the audience members were left in pitch-black darkness for minutes at a time, with nothing to do except watch the pre-recorded performances onscreen.

Some fans complained online, How is this different from watching the show [on television] at home?. At one point during the show, a staff members computer desktop was also accidentally displayed on the concert screen.

Many audience members expressed their disappointment after the show, commenting that they would have liked to have been warned in advance about the way that pre-recorded performances would be handled, especially since there were so many of them.
