Liverpool transfer news: Thomas Lemar is edging closer to joining the Reds

The France international has made all the headlines in the last 24 hours with Liverpool determined to make a last-minute signing before the transfer window shuts on Thursday.

Liverpool have reportedly lodged a £66. 6million bid for the midfielder and French publication Le10 Sport claim Monaco are prepared to accept it.

Despite the Ligue 1 champions being keen to hold onto their star man, they are finding it difficult to reject a mega-money offer. And so Monaco look set to accept Liverpool's club record fee imminently.

add only Tottenham could enter the race in the final stages to try and snatch him away from Liverpool, having monitored him in recent months.

But Spurs would have to offer more than the Merseyside outfit and Liverpool are confident they have won the race already.

Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Lemar's versatility with the 21-year-old able to play anywhere across the frontline and usually on the left.

The France international can also be deployed as a left wing-back and would give Klopp options if he decides to experiment with his formation.

Lemar registered 12 goals and 14 assists for Monaco last season as they won the French league and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

His current contract with Monaco runs until 2020 but it seems he could be the latest star to leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer. Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko have all completed moves to the Premier League.

What If the Internet Could Not Tell a Lie? Blockchain, Fake News, Rumor Mills | Brian Behlendorf - Duration: 4:39.

So, the question is: can distributed ledger technology, can blockchain technology be used

to fight fake news?

And you know it's funny, I view distributed ledger technology as the closest thing we

have in the technology field to being able to say something is a fact.

If we've recorded a Bitcoin transaction, essentially we have an entire network witnessing

that I've sent you some number of Bitcoin or some number of a digital asset, a huge

number.

And now I can't deny that I made that transaction and you can't deny that I made that transaction

and that is a really powerful thing.

In a way it's kind of like Wikipedia when somebody puts something in there and everyone

has seen that and if it's wrong it gets removed, that's something as well that's coming

to be accepted as factual.

So I think the possibility of using distributed ledgers to record data that is of really high

quality because it's being recorded when it happens, it's being witnessed by a large

number of people and thus made undeniable, immutable, in this ledger.

We have a chance of creating a body of data that can come to be trusted in a way that

data normally can't.

Think about the debate over climate change; there's not only been attacks on, 'Do you

have the right weather model?

Are you really showing this?' but attacks on the fundamental collection of that data

in the first place.

Imagine if instead of debating whether you had the right data or I had the right data

or a piece of data goes missing or an entire dataset goes missing when there's a change

in political administration, let's say, instead of that imagine if instead we had

weather sensors and air quality sensors on a hundred rooftops in every major capital

around the world collecting this data and publishing it to a public ledger.

That data would never go away.

It would only go away if every single server in this network were to disappear one day.

And that permanence, that history and the integrity of that data, because it's signed

and it's validated as part of this distributed ledger, would turn it into an immutable set

of facts really.

It was this temperature in New Delhi on that date at that time as witnessed by a hundred

different witnesses there.

So that's one way in which distributed ledger technology might help us make sure that we're

operating from a foundation of common sense, common factual evidence.

The next tier up though, which is really what people talk about when they think about fake

news, is analysis, interpretation, claims, but also rumor.

When somebody hears a rumor of something very scurrilous happening and it correlates with

what they want to believe, chances are they'll believe it and they'll pass it off to their

friends.

And so you start to see companies like Facebook and Google and others starting to implement

systems that when you forward a link to a friend that comes from a source that is known

to be of questionable quality, they'll pop up a little warning that says, 'According

to Snopes.com or according to the AP or somebody this article might not be factual.'

That's something you can do when you're a central provider like Facebook or like Google,

but wouldn't it be great to do that in a decentralized way?

When somebody sends you a news link to a website you've never heard of before, not The New

York Times, not AP or Fox News or whatever, where you have some context, but it's some

other link somewhere else, how much should you trust that?

Well a lot of folks have talked about building a distributed ledger system for recording

thrust in media sources.

So here's a website, here's people that we recognize, like Snopes, as authorities

on whether something is true or not, but why not you be able to publish something to that

chain as well, or me, that says, 'This does seem to be right to me or this doesn't seem

to be right.'

And then just like on Twitter where you can choose who you follow, you could choose what

are the sources of authority that you trust as to whether something is true or not.

That may turn out to be an answer to the fake news problem, or it may turn out to make the

different worlds that we all live in and the bubbles we live in even more bubblelicious.

I think there are many who hope that is one way in which we can try to fight the rumor

mongering and fake news floods that are happening on the Internet today.

Chelsea transfer news: Boga signs new contract before joining Birmingham City on season-long loan

CHELSEA starlet Jeremie Boga has signed a new three-year deal and joined Birmingham on loan. The Ivory Coast international, 20, looked to be first-team plans after making his Blues debut in the opening-day defeat to Burnley.

Jeremie Boga is close to completing a loan move to Birmingham.

Harry Redknapp wants Boga to bolster his Blues midfield. But Harry Redknapp has now snapped him up until the end of the season.

Blues last week completed an impressive double swoop by signing Arsenal duo Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall on loan. Boga showed his potential by netting twice in the 2013 Youth Cup final, which the Blues ultimately lost to Norwich.

But in 2015 he was able to help them to a dramatic victory over Fulham and lift the trophy. The following season he went on loan to Rennes in France, playing 27 matches and scoring twice.

And he spent last term at Granada, where his highlight was netting a beautiful side-footed finish at home to Barcelona.

The 20-year-old impressed in pre-season for the Blues.

At the age of 12, he was snapped up by Chelsea, and began attending Richard Challoner School in New Malden. He has made ten appearances for France Under-19s and one for the Ivory Coast senior team.

Redknapp has made a move for Boga after Blues struggles at the start of the season. They have won just one match and sit 20th in the Championship. Boga rises to meet a header in the 3-2 defeat to Burnley.

Liverpool Transfer News: Van Dijk record-swoop plan, Keita explains move, Lemar boost - Duration: 2:53.

Liverpool Transfer News: Van Dijk record-swoop plan, Keita explains move, Lemar boost

Liverpool are plotting a club-record move for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk. Naby Keita, who officially joins next summer, became the most expensive signing in the club's history yesterday at £48m.

But, according to The Sun, they are planning a £75m offer for Van Dijk ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

Liverpool attempted to sign Van Dijk earlier this summer but were forced to ditch the move after Southampton accused them of an illegal approach. Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in the Holland international, who is under contract until 2022.

Meanwhile, Keita has explained his move to Anfield. The Guinea international, who will remain at Leipzig this season, is excited by the vision sold to him by Jurgen Klopp.

He told the club's official website: "I am delighted that an agreement has been reached which will allow me to join Liverpool Football Club next summer, when I will become part of a project that excites me greatly.

"My commitment to RBL remains absolute for the remainder of my time at the club. I have given my all every time I have worn the shirt – that will be the case until the final whistle, in my final appearance.

"Having my future resolved means I can now focus on helping RBL achieve great things this season. Until I join my new club, next summer, I will remain an interested supporter from a distance.".

Finally, Liverpool have received a boost in their hunt for Thomas Lemar. According to the Telegraph, Monaco are interested in Divock Origi. Liverpool are willing to let Origi leave Anfield either on loan or permanently.

At least 11 clubs are interested in the Belgian but Liverpool's interest in Lemar makes Monaco the favourites. Monaco insist Lemar is not for sale but could let him leave if Origi moves in the opposite direction.
